How to Store Breast Milk
After you have successfully expressed some breast milk, either by hand or with a manual or electric breast pump you may be wondering how to store breast milk?
If you have washed your hands before pumping, your milk should be OK in room temperature for a few hours, but you should aim to refrigerate as soon as possible.
How to Store Breast Milk:
- In the fridge for up to 7 days
- In the freezer for up to 6 months.
3 Tips for Storing Breast Milk:
- Breast milk expands, so never fill to the top of your container or it will over flow.
- Your milk is warm when it comes out of your body; cool it in the fridge before transferring it to the freezer.
- Try to monitor the amount you are freezing and have it accessible in small portions to avoid waste.
Freezer Pods have been specially designed for freezing breast milk and baby food.
They provide the ultimate convenience for busy mums:
- 9 75ml portions, to keep a track on the amount you are freezing.
- A lid which can be labelled with either ball point or permanent pen, and then washes off easily with warm soapy water, so that you will always know the date it was stored (wash pen off before putting in the dishwasher – the steam will make the ink set in permanently)
- They are made from BPA free and flexible silicone, which makes popping out frozen milk as easy as can be.
- Defrost your milk in a glass jug and then neatly pour straight into a bottle!
- Freezer Pods have masses of recycling potential and the many uses change along with your growing family.
